Because thou must not dream, thou need'st not then despair! (Matthew Arnold)

Bloomsbury Thematic Dictionary of Quotations

And about nineth hour Jesus cried with a
loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?
that is to say, My God, my God, why hast
    thou forsaken me?

    Bible: Matthew
    27:46

Don't despair, not even over the fact that
    you don't despair.

    Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech novelist
    Diary

The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation.

Henry David Thoreau (1817-62) US writer.
    Walden, 'Economy'

He saved others, but he cannot save himself! Isn't he the king
of Israel? If he will come down off the cross now, we will
    believe in him!

He trusts in God and claims to be God's son. Well, then, let
us see if God wants to save him now!

I'm telling you the truth: a grain of wheat remains no more than
a single grain unless it is dropped into the ground and dies.
If it does die, then it produces many grains.
